Our raw milk should last about 2 weeks in the fridge after you receive it. Every jug comes with a best by date on the cap to help guide you. But, of course, once it's opened there are so many variables that can affect shelf life (contaminants getting in, etc).

Yes, raw milk can be frozen. We recommend freezing it when very fresh, just after you receive it. We also recommend freezing for no more than 6 months (the longer it's frozen, the more probiotic loss). One last thing to keep in mind is that some pets may notice a change in flavor when thawed. So it's always good to so a small test before committing to freezing in bulk.

Our raw milk is delicious cold in a glass on its own or with a meal. But, there are soooo many culinary uses for raw milk at home. Make your own fermented dairy like yogurt or kefir. Make cheese (ricotta is a simple one). Use it in a smoothie. Or, use it to cook mashed potatoes, french toast, creamy soups, baked goods, puddings and so much more.

Your milk lasts so long. Why is that?
That's right. Our raw milk lasts longer than most. It's because of our meticulous milk safety standards. We clean A LOT. It makes our raw milk typically last at least 2 weeks before it becomes too sour to palate.

Will the cream rise to the top?
Yes! Our milk is straight from the udder to you. And that means it's unaltered and non-homogenized. When it sits for a day or two, the cream will rise to the top. This is why we recommend shaking before serving. Or, you can separate the cream to enjoy on its own.

What's the fat content of your milk?
Jersey cows are renowned for producing milk with lots of butterfat. We don't test every batch, but it's usually around 5% fat, with the cream line landing 25-35% from the top of the gallon.

What breed are your cows?
Our herds are 80% Jersey and 20% Jersey crosses (Jersey/Guernsey, Jersey/Brown Swiss, Jersey/Holstein, etc).

How do you verify that your milk is A2/A2?
Every cow gets a genetic test with a hair sample. It tells us whether their milk contains 100% A1, a mix of A1 and A2, or 100% A2 beta-casein protein. Our herd is genetically verified to produce only A2/A2 milk.

Does all of your milk come from one farm?
We are a collection of Amish run small farms in Lancaster County that all follow the same exact farming and quality standards. A grand majority of milk comes from our main farm on site.

Our raw milk is made simply and is never heated or altered in any way. Here's how we do it:
1. The cows are milked using old fashioned pneumatic milkers.
2. The milk is poured into the bulk tank to cool down quickly.
3. We bottle the milk to order the day before or the day we pack it for you.

Milk safety is a top priority. Miller's Bio Farm is certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture for raw milk production and bottling. We also test every batch of milk on site for general bacteria counts. You can learn more about our milk safety protocols here.
