Lard is the original cooking fat! It's what our ancestors cooked with everyday before the wide variety of cooking oils we use now was available. Our lard is made from fat from all parts of the animal and is processed with dry heat. It is certified for pet consumption.

*Comes as 12 individually sealed 1 quart containers.

Need the Nitty Gritty Details?

Lard lasts a really long time. It can be kept at room temperature for 4-6 months, in the fridge for up to a year, and indefinitely in the freezer.
+
Lard is excellent for high heat cooking and frying (potato chips, anyone?). It has a super high smoke point and won't oxidize. Lard is also renowned for baking. It has a neutral flavor and makes yummy flaky pastries.
+
Our pigs are raised in the woods. In addition to the nuts and roots and other foraged foods they find solo, the pigs are fed lots of skim milk and a corn & soy free feed. The feed contains a blend of peas, fish meal, seashell flour, alfalfa meal, wheat middlings, kelp, probiotics, vitamins, and minerals.
+
What breed are your pigs?
Our pigs are heritage breeds: Berkshire, Duroc, Red Waddle, and Black crosses

How is this different than leaf lard?
Leaf lard is made specifically with the fat that surrounds the kidneys. Our lard is made with fat from the entire hog. Because of this, it is more flavorful than leaf lard.

Do your pigs get mRNA vaccines?
Nope! At Miller's, it's a hard no for mRNA vaccines. None of our animals have or will get them. While we're on the topic, none of our farmers vaccinate their animals at all!

Why is your lard for cats & dogs?
The fat comes from pigs that were raised and slaughtered to human standards. But, because the person who makes the lard doesn't have a USDA certification for his facility, we certify it as pet food.

The pork is packaged in HDPE plastic, which is the most environmentally stable of all plastics. It does not contain BPA, phthalates, heavy metals, harmful fumes, or allergens. But all plastic has the potential to leach chemicals.
