Yes, this product is legitimately certified as pet food! It's government approved for pet food only!
Why? Well, sadly Buffalo Valley Pastures had a license for human grade raw buffalo milk products here in Pennsylvania, but they dropped it. So now it's for cats & dogs only!
Plus -- raw bursting buffalo kefir can not only be a great addition to your diet but your pet's diet, too! They'll love lapping our yogurt on its own in a bowl. You can also add it to their regular food, pouring it on top of kibble or wet food.
*Dairy shouldn't be a staple food for cats and dogs. Being carnivores (or nearly carnivores), raw meat is their essential food. Use dairy as a treat or mix in with their other food for a limited period. It's a great source of moisture and probiotics!

Our raw bursting buffalo kefir should last about 2-3 weeks after you receive it. But, of course, once it's opened there are so many variables that can affect shelf life (time out of the fridge, contaminants getting in, etc).
Make sure to keep your kefir in the back of the fridge on the bottom shelf. That's where the temperatures stay cool and consistent, creating the ideal environment to maintain the freshness of your kefir. By keeping it at the back, away from any temperature fluctuations, you're ensuring that every cup remains as delicious as the first!
Can I freeze kefir?
We don’t recommend freezing kefir. The consistency will change a lot. It will likely separate and become clumpy or grainy, which may not be the best eating experience for your furry family.

Combine raw kefir with a little fresh fruit and some sparkling water for a refreshing probiotic drink!
Raw kefir can be used as a healthy and probiotic-rich alternative to yogurt or sour cream in various recipes, such as salad dressings, dips, or as a topping for baked potatoes.

What are your milk safety standards?
Milk safety is a top priority. Buffalo Valley Pastures follows all of the protocols for raw milk production for humans in the Pennsylvania. They test regularly for both general bacteria counts as well as specific pathogens.
What is kefir?
It’s a fermented milk drink. It’s tangy, similar to yogurt, but sourer. Our kefir will almost always be more sour than sweet, and will likely be more sour than store bought.
The Kefir is watery on top. What should I do?
Separation with kefir is perfectly normal. You simply need to shake to recombine.
How long is it fermented for?
Our kefir is fermented overnight for about 12 hours.
Can I make my own kefir with it? This is a contested issue. You might experience some kitchen magic and be able to make more kefir starting with our kefir at home. But, for the best possibility of success, you should start with real kefir grains. You won't find that in this product, as we strain out the grains before bottling it.
What breed are your buffalo?
Our buffalo are Swamp and River Water Buffalo breeds from India.
What are the buffalo fed?
The buffalo are 100% grass-fed and truly pastured in regenerated fields. They are outside as much as the weather allows. They're fed fresh pasture in the warmer months and dry pasture in the colder months.
Is your buffalo milk A2/A2?
Yes! All buffalo naturally produce A2/A2 milk. This is because buffalo (and all mammals) did not undergo a genetic mutation like cows did.
Does all of your buffalo milk come from one farm?
Yes, all buffalo milk comes from Buffalo Valley Pastures.

Our kefir is made simply:
1. We warm our raw, 100% grass-fed, pasture-raised milk for cats & dogs to room temperature.
2. Real kefir grains are added to the milk. These grains have been passed down in our community for generations.
3. Into the culturing room it goes! The kefir stays there for 12 hours at no more than 110°F.
4. The grains are strained out, and it's all set to be bottled.
